Premium entertainment options include access to thousands of streaming apps via Google Cast™ embedded on Samsung TVs

LOS ANGELES (November 18, 2025) – POSH on Kirkwood—the newest boutique hotel in Bloomington, Indiana—has partnered with leading guest technology provider SONIFI to offer premium in-room entertainment and conveniences that both delight guests and drive additional revenue for the property.

POSH on Kirkwood has transformed a former downtown bank into a luxurious destination for people visiting Bloomington and the nearby Indiana University.

Each of the property’s 45 suites features custom furnishings, spa-inspired bathrooms and modern amenities, including interactive features and entertainment from SONIFI on Samsung smart hospitality TVs.

Customizations on the SONIFI interactive TV platform showcase POSH’s incredible amenities, including an upscale cocktail bar located in the building’s original bank vault, three outdoor terraces, a custom sauna room, complimentary bikes to explore the city, and an on-site bagel shop.

And for when guests are in their rooms to relax and recharge with familiar comforts, SONIFI’s system provides live TV programming from DIRECTV, an extensive selection of on-demand movies and wellness content, and secure streaming from more than 5,000 apps with SONIFI’s patented STAYCAST solution.

“Our suites are designed to be a sanctuary of comfort, style and calm,” said Matt Swisher, General Manager at POSH on Kirkwood. “Making sure our guests have all the in-room amenities they want most, including their favorite entertainment, is part of that.”

POSH on Kirkwood is one of the first hotels in the country to implement the newest iteration of STAYCAST that uses Google Cast™ software embedded directly in Samsung smart hospitality TVs.

Building Google Cast into Samsung’s HBU800N and HGU7010F TV models means less in-room equipment for hotels to install and manage, without sacrificing the experience and entertainment guests expect. With the embedded Google Cast technology, guests can cast movies, shows, music, sports and more from their Android and iOS devices to the TVs in their room.

Elevating in-room experiences with SONIFI’s interactive system and entertainment options reflects the attention to detail and thoughtful design POSH on Kirkwood puts into every element of its property. SONIFI’s system helps make sure guests don’t miss any of it.

Personalized, time-aware guest messages, on-screen promotions and QR codes for bookings make it simple and convenient for guests to enjoy the full experience, while also driving satisfaction, revenue and loyalty for the hotel.

“POSH on Kirkwood is setting a new standard for boutique hospitality, balancing luxurious elegance with modern comforts and technology to create unforgettable stays,” said SONIFI CEO Ahmad Ouri. “We’re honored to have SONIFI be part of the experience POSH is creating for its guests.”

Why guest technology is key to increasing your property’s revenue https://www.sonifi.com/increase-revenue-with-guest-technology/ Thu, 21 Aug 2025 20:30:53 +0000 https://www.sonifi.com/?p=16049 The post Why guest technology is key to increasing your property’s revenue appeared first on SONIFI.

A Hospitality Upgrade feature article

By Ahmad Ouri, SONIFI CEO

Guest technology doesn’t just have to be a cost line at your property.

Instead, it could be an extension of your revenue management strategy.

Here are some ways that reframing basic amenities like Wi-Fi and in-room TVs can boost both guest satisfaction and your bottom line.

Tune in to promoting your brand and revenue centers

With an average of 73% of guests turning on the TV in their room during a stay, you have incredible potential to reach a captive audience.

A good interactive TV system will transform what was once a passive entertainment endpoint into a powerful digital marketing tool. Extending your brand to the TV brings your unique draw into an engaged environment, on the largest screen in the room, with minimal distractions.

Customizable interactive features allow guests to use the TV to learn about on-site dining options, explore spa services, and take advantage of late checkout offers.

Curated content like property-branded videos, custom guest messages, and exclusive offers can deepen a guest’s emotional connection and loyalty to your brand.

And these aren’t just self-service conveniences for guests; every upsell and booking activated by the TV is a time-saver for your staff, as well as an immediate, trackable transaction for your property.

Additional promotions for on-property services or F&B specials can be automated to display based on inventory, demand, and time.

Integrations with PMS and CRM systems allow you to target promotions based on guest profiles, which increases personalization, conversion, and relevance.

When a relevant message is delivered to guests at the right time, it drives revenue for your hotel and value for your guests.

It’s also worth noting that when guests use in-room TVs to make decisions instead of calling the front desk, it alleviates workload for your staff and creates operational efficiencies—an especially important gain for properties navigating staffing constraints.

Welcome in partners and sponsors

Another revenue angle for the TV is advertising and sponsorships, with on-screen placements from local partners or premium service groups, as well as FAST (free ad-supported streaming television) channels in your programming lineup.

When integrated tastefully and targeted correctly, this becomes another monetizable touchpoint that enhances the guest journey.

These advertising opportunities are typically automated, requiring minimal effort for your staff, and include revenue sharing, ad income, or both for your property.

Pair this with revenue sharing from VOD purchases on your TV system, and you’ve got a reliable passive income stream that could offset your monthly service fees for in-room technology.

Cater to group experiences

For conference and group services, offering a custom TV package can be a high-impact, low-effort upsell opportunity.

It could include options like custom branding, messages, schedules, channel lineups, VOD listings, and on-prem (and on-theme) specials offered throughout the event, all automated to be promoted when event organizers know attendees will have downtime.

You can also extend the experience beyond guest rooms with custom Wi-Fi packages for groups and events.

Offering reliable private internet access is just the start. Add in customized splash pages, branding, SSIDs, bandwidths, and scheduling, and you’re standing out from the competition and booking more events at your property.

When you consistently deliver cohesive digital experiences that are personalized and catered to these specific audiences, you can drive long-term revenue through repeat business and industry referrals.

Focus on the guest, not the gadget

The best guest technology strategies don’t chase the latest buzzwords. They focus on frictionless experiences. That means selecting solutions that are intuitive for guests, easy for staff to manage, and flexible enough to scale as your property evolves.

It also means putting the guest at the center of every decision.

How can technology solve a problem, remove a hassle, create delight, or unlock value?

If the answer is clear, so is the business case.

And these examples aren’t theoretical. Many hotels are seeing concrete financial results when guest-facing technology is included in their business strategies, increasingly shaping how properties differentiate themselves, earn loyalty, and drive revenue.

Western Hotelier magazine reporter Robin Brunet talked to several communication technology leaders about how they’re providing high-tech solutions for budget-conscious hoteliers in Canada.

Article excerpts:

Roy Kosuge, chief operating officer at SONIFI, points out that his company is increasingly focused on helping hotels with limited budgets achieve the high quality of communications systems enjoyed by venues with deeper pockets.

He says, “Specifically, we use existing coaxial systems to operate products such as SORA, our next-generation interactive platform for hospitality.”

For over 40 years, SONIFI has been helping hoteliers improve guest satisfaction, simplify operations, and increase revenue with a variety of technologies and services.

SORA offers smart features and visually compelling interfaces to deliver personalized guest experiences; it’s designed as a visual complement to a guest’s overall stay and features a flexible platform that operates on and supports multiple in-room hardware options, including Google Chromecast, set-top-boxes, and smart TVs.

This innovation allows hoteliers to make the most of their existing technology investments.

Kosuge goes on to say that “on the Wi-Fi side, G.hn is an old-wired networking, but we’re currently leveraging it to deliver high-quality Wi-Fi over coaxial systems.”

At a time when costs are rising faster than revenue for many hospitality properties, it’s vital that any communications technology will ultimately improve staff efficiency and the guest experience.

Fortunately, whether the solution applies to front desk or in-room entertainment, delivering such solutions is precisely what the major tech companies are focused on.

Conversations about the evolving role of TVs in hospitality properties

Hospitality Technology’s Michal Christine Escobar talked to Kara Heermans, SONIFI’s senior vice president of product and user experience, about the transformation of guest room televisions.

“We’re really trying to think about how the television screen can be a revenue generator rather than a cost center,” Kara said. It’s about building tools that reduce friction for staff, elevate the guest experience, and quietly generate revenue behind the scenes.

When it comes to AI, it’s about looking at it as a tool for reducing repetitive tasks, enhancing support, and creating faster, smarter guest interactions—not replacing the human touch. “Hoteliers don’t want to get rid of hospitality,” she said. “They just want to focus on delivering it where it matters most.”

Kara also chatted on the RMWorldTravel radio show about how in-room TVs can create more personal connections with guests, driving satisfaction and revenue while also making operations more efficient for hotel staff.

LOS ANGELES (May 13, 2025) – Guests at the stunning Crystal Springs Resort now have an equally stunning in-room TV experience thanks to the property’s longtime technology partner SONIFI.

Located just an hour outside New York City, Crystal Springs Resort is a top travel destination for world-class golfing, luxurious spa treatments, culinary delights and unforgettable getaways.

The property has used SONIFI’s interactive TV platform in their guest rooms for many years; when they saw the company’s newest platform, though, they knew the modern look, convenient features and revenue-driving opportunities would be an update worth making.

Since the resort already had the room equipment and headend system set up on site, SONIFI simplified the process by using its latest deployment option, Headend Interactive, to upgrade the in-room experience.

“Crystal Springs Resort was a perfect candidate for this interactive TV headend deployment,” said Roy Kosuge, SONIFI’s Chief Operating Officer. “Using their existing TVs, remotes and RF infrastructure, we were able to improve their guest engagement platform without the need for room visits or rewiring.”

With the new interactive platform, Crystal Springs Resort welcome guests with a scene-setting video that automatically plays when the TV turns on. They’re also able to use the system’s features to promote all the resort has to offer. With customizable videos, guest messages, digital guidebooks and main menu highlights, guests get a closer look at amenities and enticing offers for the resort’s revenue centers.

“We have so much we want guests to know about, whether it’s our six top-rated golf courses, award-winning spas, 10 unforgettable dining options, multiple wedding and event venues, or guest services available at each of the two hotels on site,” said Larry Slonaker, Chief Information Officer at Crystal Springs Resort. “This updated system from SONIFI lets us showcase all of it in a way our guests are really responding to, and with Headend Interactive, it was very affordable with minimal impact during install.”

The interactive TV also gives guests easy access to their favorite entertainment like live TV programming from DIRECTV, secure streaming from thousands of apps with STAYCAST, and premium on-demand content.

“Guests at Crystal Springs Resort have high expectations for their experience there,” Kosuge said. “The resort delivers on every level, and we’re proud to have SONIFI be part of that, too.”

Think guest room TVs are just for watching TV? Then you’re missing out on reaching a captive audience with your messaging and promotions.

Gaming & Leisure’s Voice podcast host John Cash Filippe welcomed Kara Heermans, SONIFI’s senior vice president of product management and user experience, to discuss how the role of the in-room TV—and the content on it—has evolved over the years, and why it’s more important than ever for hotels to pay attention to.

Watch & listen to the discussion:

Podcast excerpts

On guest room TVs:

“The television is more than just entertainment.

It’s this way to drive activation and promotion and advertising. TV is still the #1 device that people use to consume media in hotel rooms.

Because of that, it’s really the most viable marketing and communications platform in the room.”

On content:

“A trend we really keep an eye on is demographics and guest behavior, and how much that’s changing.

You need to be making sure you’re offering different types of content so that you’re meeting the needs of all your different types of guests who may want linear TV or casting or apps.

And then you really need to think about how you deliver all those great content options, regardless of infrastructure, so guests can access what they want to.”

On options:

“What’s been really great to see in this evolution is that now hotels are using the television to generate ROI in ways that better align with their core goals.”

On marketing:

“In casinos, you want people out on the floor, you want people taking advantage of your amenities, you want them spending money.

So in the room, you have a captive audience. And you can use that TV screen in some really smart ways to promote and inform and drive guests where you want them to go.”

On personalization:

“Hotels are experts on their guests. They know so much about them, their preferences, what type of guest they are—if they’re a foodie or a sports buff or whatnot.

But as an industry, there’s so much more that we could do to use that information to customize and personalize the digital experience in the hotel room.”

Your TVs should be doing more for you.

LOS ANGELES (April 8, 2025) – Wanting travelers to have the best in-room amenities at the fully transformed OUTRIGGER Waikīkī Paradise Hotel, the OUTRIGGER team turned to longtime technology partner SONIFI to provide the entertainment and connectivity their guests want and expect.

SONIFI technology is featured throughout the newly remodeled guest rooms at OUTRIGGER Waikiki Paradise Hotel

Located in the heart of Honolulu, Hawai‘i, OUTRIGGER Waikīkī Paradise Hotel has been a familiar property with local residents for many years, formerly known as OHANA Waikīkī East by OUTRIGGER. With the full-property remodel OUTRIGGER led, they sought to completely reimagine the guest experience at the craft hotel, blending modern comforts with the cultural heritage of the island.

Along with a completely refreshed lobby, pool and fitness center, visitors are surrounded by artwork and murals by local artisans throughout the property, including the 443 newly renovated guest rooms and suites.

Each guest room is designed to be a sanctuary for travelers. Knowing how important staying connected is for their guests from all over the world, OUTRIGGER worked with SONIFI to upgrade its HSIA network using G.hn technology, which is capable of delivering Gigabit network speeds over a property’s existing coaxial cabling.

“OUTRIGGER Waikīkī Paradise Hotel is a consistently high-occupancy property, typically with more than one guest per room, meaning there’s multiple connected devices at a time in every room. That requires a solid, reliable network across the property to support all the guest devices, in-room technology and hotel management systems,” said Paul Johnson, SONIFI’s General Manager of Internet Services. “Taking rooms out of service to run new cabling wasn’t feasible, so we worked closely with the property’s IT team to update their network with a G.hn solution.”

The new network delivers the stability and speed to meet guests’ Wi-Fi demands as well as the hotel’s back-of-house management needs. It also serves as the backbone to run other SONIFI technology installed in the rooms, including:

  • Interactive TVs with custom branding and features that drive revenue with promotions of the on-site amenities, other OUTRIGGER properties and third-party partners
  • Free-to-guest programming from DIRECTV, with custom lineups to include channels that cater to their international guests
  • Simple and secure streaming from thousands of apps with STAYCAST, where guests use their personal devices to cast content directly to the in-room TV

“Guests who are looking to unwind or rest for a bit in their room often turn to their favorite entertainment to relax,” Johnson said. “We looked at the property’s demographics and typical guest behavior to make sure they would have the comforts of home that they look for, while incorporating engaging and visually stunning opportunities on the interactive TV for OUTRIGGER Waikīkī Paradise Hotel to promote how great their entire property is—leading to an increase in on-prem revenue for them.”

This upgrade wasn’t the first time the OUTRIGGER team has worked with SONIFI, and it won’t be the last.

“We partner with SONIFI for our property technology solutions because of the longstanding trust and reliability they’ve consistently demonstrated—both in the quality of their products and the expertise of their team,” said Henry Schwartz, Chief Information Officer at OUTRIGGER Hospitality Group. “They continue to deliver tailored, innovative solutions that align with the distinct needs of each of our properties and their guests. We’re especially pleased with their work at the newly reimagined OUTRIGGER Waikīkī Paradise Hotel, and we look forward to continuing our collaboration on future projects.”

“Guests, island locals, and the OUTRIGGER team all have high standards and expectations at OUTRIGGER Waikīkī Paradise Hotel, just as they do for all OUTRIGGER properties,” Johnson added. “We’re honored to be trusted to deliver technology experiences designed to impress.”

LOS ANGELES (March 25, 2025) – In partnership with LG Electronics and Google, leading guest technology provider SONIFI is deploying LG smart hotel TVs embedded with Google Cast software to the hospitality industry.

Following successful pilot implementations of the embedded casting technology in 2024, SONIFI is now installing the newest iteration of its commercial-grade casting solution, STAYCAST, to hotels across the U.S.

STAYCAST utilizes the embedded Google Cast software to allow travelers to easily and securely stream their favorite movies, shows, music and more from their personal devices directly to the LG TV in their hotel room.

Google Cast works with over 5,000 apps on both Android and iOS devices, giving the same experience and ease of use to guests regardless of OS.

“Building Google Cast into LG TVs means less in-room hardware for hotels to install and manage, without sacrificing the experience and entertainment guests are looking for most,” said Jacob Benner, Senior Director of Hospitality at LG Electronics USA. “As an early adoption partner, SONIFI plays a key role helping hotels deploy the LG TVs with embedded casting, and we’re looking forward to expanding our collaboration to even more properties this year.”

The solution can be enabled remotely without a room visit, offering hotels a simple process for this increasingly must-have amenity.

“This embedded version of casting also carries over the reliability of SONIFI’s patented device isolation technology and security settings that benefit both hotels and guests alike,” said Kara Heermans, SONIFI’s Senior Vice President of User Experience and Product Management.

Just like the 500,000 hotel rooms with STAYCAST today, guests pair their mobile device to the TV with a QR code to stream their favorite content without entering their credentials onto the TV, they can only cast to the TVs in their room, and their secure pairing is automatically disconnected at checkout. Plus, staff and guests have access to 24/7 support from SONIFI.

“We’ve been so pleased with the implementation and user response during the embedded casting pilot projects,” Heermans said. “LG and Google have been incredible partners, as always, and we’re confident that the expanded launch of the casting solution will bring many more happy customers and guests.”
